Markus's father was a Brick maker, while his mother was a housewife and nurtured him with his three siblings. Schnermann had spastic cerebral palsy while he was young, because of which he required constant therapy. Markus tells that it took him too long to learn to speak or walk and when he made it to school the teachers never expected him to make a bright student. At the age of 11, his parents were told that he could never be independent. However, he started recovering as he grew. He says that

He says that he never had a goal to become a domainer. He started work in the construction business and then turned into a life guard at a public school. When he meet Susanne, (now his wife) he decided that he wanted to do something more. Hence, he took education of handicapped children at the University of Dortmund and then worked with handicapped children.
