Mouhamet Diop is the CEO of NEXT SA, a consulting company in Senegal, and also the President and Director General of Khewuel.com, which is a registrar. He was selected to serve on the ICANN Board by the Addressing Support Organization, and served between 2002 and 2006.[1]
Mouhamet is the Permanent Secretary of ISOC's Senegal Chapter and Telecom Society. He also is acquainted and works with bodies within the UN for the support of ICT in developing countries. He is a member of the IDN ICANN committee. In 2000, Mouhamet Diop attended meetings as an IT expert on the Senegalese government's vision and a strategy to build IT infrastructures in Senegal.
He is involved in the AfriNIC process to set up a new RIR; he currently is an AfriNIC observer at the ASO address council, and on the executive steering committee of AfriNIC.[2]
Mr. Diop also serves on the Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel, which is a technical panel within ICANN's GNSO.[3]
Work
In 2000, he started his own company called NEXT SA, which is involved in commercial Internet services. Prior to starting NEXT SA, he worked for SONATEL (the Senegalese National Telecom Company) from 1993 to 2001. It is the second LIR in West Africa. He served as the Data Network Manager and built the biggest IP-Based network in West Africa.
Education
Mouhamet Diop holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Chemistry from the University Cheikh Anta Diop, and a Ph. D. Certificate in Computer Science from the University of Rennes (IFSIC). He also holds an MBA in Finance from ESSEC (Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales) at Cergy in France. He graduated from ENST de Bretagne in Telecommunications Engineering, and holds a telecom engineering degree from ESMT Dakar obtained with highest honours in 1990.[4]
