Mason Cole is the Internet Governance Advisor at Perkins Coie. Before that, he was the Internet Governance Advisor at Perkins Coie (from December 2017 to November 2021) and the Vice President of Communications and Industry Relations at Donuts (from 2012 to 2017).[1]
From 2001 to 2011, he was the Vice President of Communications and Industry Relations for Oversee.net. He joined SnapNames, a subsidiary of Oversee.[1] He was responsible for the company's public relations and communications for its five operating divisions, its relationship with ICANN, and matters with regulatory agencies and international governments. Mason also directed the company’s intellectual property interests. He has successfully secured patents in the United States, Canada, and China.
Cole is also the former Chair of the Registrar Stakeholder Group,[2] and a board member of the Internet Commerce Association. He was representing the Registrar Stakeholder Group on the GNSO.[3] Cole has also been the Editor and Publisher of the State of the Domain industry analysis newsletter.
In a letter dated December 8, 2011, Cole, along with 27 other domain name industry representatives, wrote to Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison to support ICANN's New gTLD Program, in response to the Senate Hearings taking place on the same day. They supported ICANN's argument that the program would be innovative and economically beneficial and noted that the program took a diverse group of international stakeholders years to develop.[4] The letter can be found here.
