Safenames Ltd is a domain registrar, specializing in corporate domain portfolio management and online trademark services. Their web-based products are made for use within their clients' legal and marketing departments. Their main headquarters is in Milton Keynes, England; they also have offices in Virginia, USA, and Sydney, Australia.

Safenames was founded in 1997, and gained ICANN accreditation in 2002.[1]

Brand Protection Achievements[edit | edit source]

In May of 2009, Safenames successfully recovered a variety of domain names for five major soccer clubs within the English Premier League. The company was able to link the disparate trademark infringements into a single case and file on behalf of Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, and West Ham clubs. They filed with WIPO using the UDRP. The WIPO panel ruled in their favor. Examples of the violations include: official-manchester-tickets.com, official-liverpool-tickets.com, official-tottenham-tickets.com, official-fulham-tickets.com.[2]

Safenames was able to successfully recover "gushansen.com", despite the fact that the three-time World Poker Champion, Gus Hansen, did not have a registered trademark on his name. The recovery, which took place in September of 2009, was made possible through a UDRP filing with the WIPO; they demonstrated that the domain was registered in bad faith.[3]
