KRNIC (Korea Network Information Center) is the domain name registry for the .kr country code top-level domain name (ccTLD) in Korea.
Background
KRNIC was founded in 1999 to manage the internet resources of Korea. In 2009, it was merged with Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA) and (National Internet Development Agency of Korea)NIDA. KRNIC is now performing its responsibilities as Korean registry under supervision of KISA.[1]
Responsibilitie
KRNIC's primary role is the coordination of Korean internet resources such as:[2]
- allocate and assign internet protocol (IP) addresses and autonomous system (AS) numbers
- manage and develop policies for .kr. domain
- ensure the operation and evolution of DNS, accreditation of registrars, etc.
