.green is one of the proposed new generic top-level domain names (gTLD) submitted by the Dotgreen Foundation to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers in the latest gTLD expansion program on January 2012. Annalisa Roger, co-founder and co-Chair of the San Francisco Regional Chapter of ISOC, is the leader of the .green initiative since 2007. The Dotgreen Foundation will serve as the registry operation of the TLD while Neustar will provide the technical back-end registry solutions.[1]
In an interview, Annalisa Roger confirmed that .green has many supporters the from environmental community and the internet industry. She explained that .green means go, environmental, humanitarian and sustainability. She encouraged the world to go forward and go green. According to her, other proposed environmental TLDs like .eco is welcome, competition is beneficial and it is good for consumers to have choices. Roger also emphasized that 100% of the income that will be generated from the .green TLD will be used in funding various sustainability programs and projects worldwide.[2]
On the other hand, Tim Switzer, COO and CFO of the organization confirmed that their application was already registered with ICANN. [3] Switzer served as former vice-president of registry services for Neustar.[4]
