More information:

.reviews is a gTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant was Donuts (Extra Cover, LLC) but ownership of the TLD was later transferred to Rightside (United TLD Holdco, Ltd.). The proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 11 February 2014.[1]

Several applicants applied for .review.[2]

Ownership Transfer[edit | edit source]

In January 2014 Rightside announced that it had acquired the rights to .reviews and .futbol. Both strings were originally applied for by Donuts subsidiaries, under a major subsidiary Covered TLD, LLC. United TLD Holdco, Ltd. (The subsidiary of Demand Media that owns Rightside and applied for New gTLDs) has the right to gain an ownership stake in a number of Donuts' TLD applications because of the company's stake in Covered TLD. Donuts' subsidiary Extra Cover, LLC signed the RA with ICANN, but by the time the TLD was delegated the Registry was listed as United TLD Holdco, Ltd..[3]

Application Details[edit | edit source]

Many of Donuts' applications, including this one, seem to have been applied for using the same boiler-plate application in which the TLD is defined as a means of providing greater expression on the Internet and will be an open TLD without pre-registration policies. It notes its plans to adhere with all registration policies required by ICANN and its intent to have remediation and takedown policies clearly defined to fit within these requirements. Pre-registration verification will not be used and this as defined as causing "cause more harm than benefit by denying domain access to legitimate registrants." They intend to control abuse through "extensive user and rights protections."[4]

Contract Signed[edit | edit source]

On 13 September 2013, Donuts received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .reviews after passing the Initial Evaluation. The company later assigned the agreement to Rightside.[5]

Delegation and Availability[edit | edit source]

.reviews was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on 11 February, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[1]
