.com is one of the first generic top level domain name (gTLD) of the Internet Domain Name System (DNS) which was introduced in in 1985 by the working group led by Jon Postel. The first set of top level domain include .com (commercial), .gov (government), .edu (education), [.mil]] (military) and .org (organization).[1]

Verisign is the registry operator of the .com gTLD which was approved by ICANN in 2006.[2]
