Sokol Haxhiu is the founder and Executive Director of the Center for Development and Technology, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting development through technology and innovation in Albania. [1]
Haxhiu was the manager of the ICT for Development Cluster for UNDP Albania for the past five years where he designed, managed and implemented some the important ICT4D projects for the country, such as GovNet Project, e-Services Project, FOSS Project, e-Accounting Programme, e-School Project, and the x-Road Project.[2] He has also worked for GTZ and EU projects, and authored or co-authored the National ICT Strategy, the Master Plan for e-School, and the Effects of ICT in Education System in Albania, and other research papers.[3]
An Albanian native speaker, Sokol Haxhiu is also fluent in English and Italian; and is active member of organizations like United Nations Development Programme, Center for Technology and Development, and the Task Force for e-Education. [4]
Career History
- From Jan 2000 to May 2002, Sokol Haxhiu acted as an Expert in klahoma State University. [5]
- From August 2002 to August 2004, Sokol Haxhiu was the head of the ICT department of Tirana, where he was responsible for reforming the municipality's entire work and processes through ICT.[6]
- From December 2002 to December 2004, he worked as an IT counsultant in GTZ. [7]
- He was an Outside Lecturer in the University of New York in Computer Applications and Management Information System from January 2003 to August 2005. [8]
- From August 2004 to December 2009 he worked as ICTD Manager at UNDP.[9]
- From December 2004, he is acting as xecutive Director at Center for Development and Technology.

Haxhiu has also been certified in ICT and e-governance from the e-Governance Academy in Estonia and in Internet Governance from the Diplo Foundation in Malta.
