Cherine Chalaby is an expert in the field of banking and technology. At present, he is a Board Trustee at Facebook's Oversight Board.[1] He served on the ICANN Board of Directors. He was appointed by the Nominating Committee on December 10, 2010, and served until November 2019, ultimately as the Chairman. He served on ICANN Board's Finance Committee, Board Governance Committee, and Executive Committee.[2][3]

Career History

Chalaby joined Andersen Consulting Ventures, now Accenture Capital Markets, after receiving his Master's Degree in 1977. He became a Partner of the company in 1987. After three years, he was again promoted, supervising the company's stock exchange and capital markets business in the United Kingdom, Nordic countries, Ireland and South Africa. He also supervised the company's business activities in New York, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong, and the Middle East. In 2000, he was appointed to Managing Partner, leading the company's European operations. He also served as Managing Partner of Mergers & Acquisitions and Venture Capital businesses for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India until his retirement from the firm. As Senior Member of the Accenture Investment Committee One Billion Dollar Fund, he was instrumental in the acquisition of 11 companies and investments made to 15 technology start-up companies. From 2001-2004, he also served on the Executive Committee and Global Leadership Council of Accenture.[4]

After serving Accenture for 28 years, he retired from the company in 2006 and joined Rasmala Investment Holdings as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. He oversees the development and management of the company's investment banking capabilities.[6][7]

Education

Chalaby received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University and his Master's Degree in Computing Sciences from the Imperial College of London. He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
