David Cake joined the GNSO council at ICANN 45, elected by the NCSG, and was a Vice-Chair of the Council in 2014 and 2015, and remained a councillor until the 2016 AGM.

He was previously the Chair of Electronic Frontiers Australia, as well as a staff member and Ph.D. candidate at Curtin University's Department of Internet Studies in Western Australia. He currently works in the cyber security industry.

He has been active in many GNSO working groups, and was one of the Vice-Chairs of the Next Generation RDS Working Group. He was also a Vice-Chair of the NCSG Policy Committee. Currently he is an alternate in the Expedited Policy Development Process on the Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data.

He has served as the Asia-Pacific representative on the Non-Commercial Users Constituency Executive Committee and on the first ICANN Security, Stability and Resiliency Review Team. He served as the Interim Chair of the Non-Commercial Users Constituency during 2012, following the resignation of the previous Chair.

He was a co-founder of Western Australia's hackerspace, The Artifactory.[1]
