Verizon was incorporated in Delaware after the merger of Bell Atlantic Corporation and GTE Corp. making it the second largest telecommunications company and the largest wireless provider with more than 260,000 employees on June 30, 2000.The newly formed company was headed by Charles Lee, Verizon chairman and co-chief executive officer, and Ivan Seidenberg, Verizon president and co-CEO.
