.reit is a TLD being proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant is National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, Inc.[1] It was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on the 12th November, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2]

"REITs are companies that own and most often actively manage income-producing commercial real estate; they were first established in the United States in 1960 and now exist throughout the world. Although the U.S. remains the largest market (in terms of market capitalization), REITs are becoming increasingly prominent throughout the world."
Registration will be restricted to official REITs (pronounced "reets") as defined and recognized by relevant national laws.[3]

On the 4th September 2014, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, Inc. received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .reit after passing the Initial Evaluation.[4]
