Nic.tm (TM Domain Registry) is the registry for the .tm ccTLD for Turkmenistan. It is a subsidiary of the Internet Computer Bureau, chaired by Paul Kane. The company is headquartered in United Kingdom and maintains other offices in the United States and Japan.
Background[edit | edit source]
TM Domain Registry was founded in 1997 and the company took over the operations of the .tm ccTLD after a four year hiatus when the former registry Netnames stopped receiving applications from registrants due to overwhelming demands and unable to provide the necessary services for its customers.[1]
The Ministry of Communication in Turkmenistan who also serves as director for Turkmen section of the Internet Society (ISOC-ndr) chose Nic.tm to revive the .tm cctld to be able to protect the interest of domain name owners of .tm ccTLD.[2]
In 2003, the registration for .tm ccTLD was re-opened by Nic.tm on a first come first serve basis. The company retained WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center to handle domain name disputes and will be responsible in creating Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) for the .tm ccTLD.[3]

Nic.tm offers domain name purchase, registration, management and renewal as well as Internationalizes Domain Name(IDN) registration for entities who wish to register their domain names using their local characters.[4]
