Lawrence Ng is Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of and is known for being a particularly young entrepreneur.[1] He is also an investor in LNG MGMT LLC and a Board Member of the Asian Pacific Community Fund, as well as the founder of Onramp Lab, a digital marketing company, and the Onramp Fund, a startup incubator.[2][3]

Past Experience

During his college years, Lawrence Ng had many concomitant jobs that helped him better understand the business world. Among these were:

  • Intern at Arbour Partners, a small hedge fund
  • Intern at Merrill Lynch
  • Financial consult at Smith Barney
  • Intern at StartPath, an Internet advertising agency where he met Fred Hsu, the colleague with whom he would later establish[4]

In addition to these jobs, Lawrence also worked continuously through his youth, starting at an unusually young age. He later credited his early experience with helping him establish the work ethic necessary to successfully start his own business.[5]

The Idea

In 2000, when Startpath went bankrupt, 21-year old Lawrence and his friend Fred Hsu decided to start their own business. Using only their own savings, about $10,000, the two created a small office for The success of the company grew as they acquired Domain Sponsor, followed by SnapNames and Moniker. Lawrence Ng's idea was to create a service that would be a "one-stop shop" for domainers.[6]

In 2006, the New York Times reported that the company was one of the largest in the domain trading and development space, bringing in upwards of $100 million in revenue per year.[7]

In 2002, its DomainSponsor business unit pioneered the "domain parking" technology that allows owners of undeveloped domain names to monetize the organic, direct navigation traffic hitting those domains. Today, DomainSponsor's traffic network receives nearly 1 billion direct navigation visits per month from around the world.

In early 2011, DomainSponsor announced a new service that allows advertisers to directly bid on and acquire targeted segments of the direct navigation traffic on its network. Since direct navigation users have very specific, strong intent, research studies have shown that they have favorable conversion rates for advertisers. also produces over 14 million pre-qualified leads per month for advertisers on its owned and operated lead generation websites in the travel, consumer finance, and shopping verticals. Sites include,,,,,, and also owns nearly 1 million undeveloped domain names that contribute organic, direct navigation traffic to its performance marketing traffic network.[8]

In January 2012, Oversee sold domain aftermarket and registrar business units SnapNames and to KeyDrive SA.[9]

Its head office is located in Los Angeles, with additional offices located in New York City and Frankfurt, Germany.

In 2007, was named to the Inc. 500, followed by a third rank in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 of Los Angeles, and an eighteenth rank in the list of the nation's fastest-growing internet companies. [10] [11] It was also named "Internet and New Media Company of the Year" by the Technology Council of Southern California. [12]

Lawrence Ng received the prestigious Ernst & Young Award for "Entrepreneur of the Year" in the greater Los Angeles area in the technology category in 2007.[13] is one of the co-founders of the Internet Commerce Association, a non-profit association that represents the interests of domain owners. ICA is an important participant in the development of rules and regulations that relate to Internet issues and also in the dispute resolution process established by ICANN.[14]
