.mf was created to be the ccTLD for the Collectivity of Saint Martin, an overseas collectivity of France. It was never assigned, and it is not present in the root zone.[1]

Before 2007, the French part of Saint Martin was a commune belonging to the French overseas department and region of Guadeloupe. Websites in Saint Martin mostly use the ccTLDs for Guadeloupe (.gp) and also France's (.fr).[2]
