Ontology notes[edit source]
Our ontology follows ISO 3166-1 for "English short names" (with limited editorial changes), two-letter codes (alpha-2), and three-letter codes (alpha-3). Our local database is located at MediaWiki:CountryData.json, and is based on the CSV from the country-list Github repository. That data is combined with the ICANN Geographic Regions list. It is further enriched with data collected by ICANNWiki`s research team to normalize the country's self-identified name (endonym), acronym(s), previous names, and other relevant entries.
