Internet Society US Los Angeles and Southern California Chapter is one of the United States' chapters of Internet Society (ISOC), based on the Los Angeles and Southern California area. It was chartered in June, 2024.

History

Although only chartered by ISOC in 2024, talks of a Chapter in Los Angeles occurred for over a decade. An article on Los Angeles Times from 1998 inquires why the area does not have its own chapter, considering the role the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) had on the History of the Internet as the one that installed the first node of the Arpanet. Internet Society Chaptero, other places in the US, like New York or Washington D.C., or countries the article's author considers to be "low-tech places", have one. The article follows with a possible change in this scenario, because there was an initiative of creating one by a "handful of Southern California Internet users", started by computer science graduate Wendy Chou, that were trying to gather 25 members to found a Chapter. However, the meetings had poor showing.
