Josu Waliño Pizarro is the CEO of PUNTUEUS Foundation, where he oversees the management and strategic direction of the .EUS Top Level Domain (TLD). This TLD is dedicated to promoting the Basque language and culture online, supporting the digital identity of the Basque-speaking community. He has been actively involved in the domain name industry since 2014.
ICANN and industry involvement[edit | edit source]
Josu is actively engaged in the global internet governance community. Since 2020 he serves as the Vice-chair of the GeoTLD.Group, the association supporting geographic and community TLDs. In 2025, Josu was elected as a representative on the ICANN Nominating Committee, representing the Registry Stakeholder Group (RySG).
Professional background[edit | edit source]
With over 25 years of experience in technology and innovation, Josu has consistently focused on advancing the digital presence of the Basque language. Prior to his role at PUNTUEUS, he founded Eleka Ingeniaritza Linguistikoa, a company specializing in linguistic engineering.
He also served as the Director of Projects and Innovation at Elhuyar Foundation, a key organization dedicated to the promotion of science and technology in the Basque Country. Additionally, Josu was the President of Langune, the cluster of language industries in the Basque Country, where he played a key role in fostering collaboration and growth within the sector.
Josu is also actively involved in the Digital Environment working group within the Advisory Council on the Basque Language of the Basque Government, contributing his expertise to promoting linguistic diversity in the digital space.
Since 2017, Josu has been a lecturer in the Digital Law Master’s program at the University of Deusto, where he teaches about Internet Governance, domain name industry, and the digital market.
