Justine Chew Bee Ling is presently practising law in her native city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She also pursues specific interests in the Internet, global domain name management policies, social media and digital activism.
Justine is a member of the Malaysian Bar, the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM), Badan Warisan Malaysia, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), as well as an Asia-Pacific individual member of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). She has served on several ICANN policy working groups since 2012 and continues to do so.
Fascinated with the uses and potential of technology, Justine indulges in lots of reading and tinkering with all sorts of software, applications and gadgets. She is currently making nascent in-roads into the field of data analytics, tinkering with Python, R in her immersion into Data Science & related interests in AI & ML.
Justine loves to travel and considers it a rich source of gaining equally fascinating life experiences.
Prior to legal practice, she was with the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) - the world's first multi-stakeholder network in the area of ICT for development. She joined GKP in 2006, and went on to head various portfolios for the Network, including Membership & Partnership, Communication & Technology, and Programmes. She became its Deputy Executive Director from Feb 2008 to Oct 2008 and Acting Executive Director from Nov 2008 to Jun 2009, holding management oversight for the Network's Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur.
Justine started her career in 1997 as an analyst in one of Malaysia's government-linked corporations (GLC). She then worked for several IT companies, designing web solutions for a range of enterprise functions. Prior to joining GKP, she was as a business cum technology consultant and an ICT entrepreneur in Malaysia. In 2004-2005, Justine managed Malaysia's 'Smart Taxipreneur', a USD1.7mil Bridging the Digital Divide multi-sector partnership pilot project.
