Russell Horowitz founded Marchex, together with other executives from Go2Net namely Ethan Caldwell, John Keister and Peter Christothoulou, on January 17th, 2003. The founders raised $20 million to acquire two companies E-Family.com, Inc., including its wholly owned subsidiary Enhanced Interactive that specializes in managing search placement for clients & listing clients web sites in search engines for a fee, and Traffic Leader.com.[1]

Initial Public Offering[edit | edit source]

In 2004, Marhex held its Initial Public Offering, offering 4 million shares at $6.50 per share. The company traded 37% of its stocks during its first day of trading, raising $ 27.2 million, making it the most successful public offering during that year.[2]

Products and Services[edit | edit source]

The company's advertising products, which include Pay-For-Call Exchange and Analytics, help business reinvent their strategies in attracting new customers. Its small business marketing products, local leads and reputation management, pay per click and publishing empower local business owners to efficiently manage and monitor their web presence, communicate with existing customers, as well as add new clients.[3]

  • 2005- Name Development Ltd, Acquired for $ 164 million in cash and stock, collection of 100,000 domains assembled by domain name pioneer Yun Yee.[4]
  • 2006- Openlist acquired for $13 million.[5]
  • 2011- Jingle Networks.com, one of the leading providers of mobile voice search performance advertising and technology solutions in North America and operator of 800-free-411 was purchased by the company for $62.5 million in cash and stock.[6]
