The IANA Functions Stewardship Transition is a process and community discussion regarding the transition of IANA functions stewardship from its historical contract with the United States government's NTIA to the global Internet community. The process and discussion is spearheaded by ICANN and its various stakeholder groups, and was catalyzed by an announcement in March 2014 by NTIA that they would be relinquishing the stewardship to the Internet community.

The press release outlined a number of principles which the ICANN-community drafted proposal must meet:
The '''Internet Governance Forum''' or '''IGF''' was established in order to provide the necessary support for the United Nations Secretary General in conducting the mandate from the [[World Summit on the Information Society]] ([[WSIS]]). The IGF serves as a platform wherein stakeholders from industry, government and civil society can discuss issues related to Internet governance. It serves as a collaborative, interactive platform where all stakeholders can put forward their views and exchange ideas beneficial for Internet governance. The IGF was formally established in 2006 as a part of the outcome of the second phase of WSIS.
*Must Support and enhance the multistakeholder model;
*Must Maintain the security, stability, and resiliency of the Internet DNS;
*Must Meet the needs and expectation of the global customers and partners of the IANA services; and,
*Must Maintain the openness of the Internet.

The IGF will hold its 10th annual meeting in João Pessoa, Brazil, on 10 to 13 November 2015, and focus on the theme "Evolution of Internet Governance: Empowering Sustainable Development".
