RegisterFly was a domain name registrar. Its accreditation was terminated by ICANN in 2007 due to massive customer complaints and violations of provisions in the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA).
The uproar over RegisterFly was the spur for ICANN to extend the operations and scope of Contractual Compliance to include regular audits of registrars and registries for conformity to ICANN's RAA and Registry Agreement.
- In a CircleID blog post on December 30, 2021, Jeff Neuman questioned the practicality of ICANN’s Accountability Mechanisms, called for ICANN's Whistleblower Policy to extend to persons other than employees of ICANN, and accused ICANN of retaliating against DHH for filing an Urgent Reconsideration Request citing ICANN staff's inaction in responding to its Assignment Request for the .hiphop Registry Agreement. ICANN has paused any further consideration of DHH’s Assignment request pending the outcome of the Reconsideration Request by the ICANN Board Accountability Mechanisms Committee (BAMC).
