Raymond A. Plzak is a member of the ICANN Board of Directors. He was appointed by the Address Supporting Organization On May 2009. His appointment to the ICANN Board will expired during the ICANN Public Meeting on June 2011. Plzak is the chairman of the Structural Improvements Committee, member of the Board Governance Committee and a member of the Risk Committee.[1]
Career History edit
Plzak has an extensive experience in Internet Registry Operations before joining the ICANN Board of Directors. He was involved in the managing the allocation of Internet Number Resources, administration of domain names, managing internet root servers(g.rootserver.net), directory services such as the Whois and Internet Routing Registry (IRR) and help desk operations. In 1991, Plzak worked with the United States Department of Defense (DoD). He was responsible in the administration and management of the .mil generic top level domain name (gTLD). In 2000, he joined the ARIN as President and CEO until 2009. After his tenure with ARIN, he joined ICANN and became member of the Board of Directors.[2]

Publications edit
Plzak co-authored the a paper entitled Legal and Policy Aspects of Internet Numbers. The paper discussed the importance of a consistent and heightened legal and public policy approach to effectively manage the critical issues involved in the management of the Internet Number Resources. The paper was presented during the VI Computer Law World Conference in 2006 and it was published Santa Clara Computer & High Technology Law Journal in 2008.[3] He also co-authored several RFCs including RFC 2870- Root Name Server Operational Requirements, which was published in 2000.[4] He was also the principal author and editor of some of the internet governance documents including the NRO MoU, ASO MoU and the ARIN PDP.
Other Activities edit
He actively participates in the different conferences of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
