Major Topics & Events[edit | edit source]
ICANN Accountability Post-IANA Transition[edit | edit source]
The ICANN Community focused on developing enhancements to ensure that ICANN is fully accountable to its stakeholders since the US government completed the withdrawal of its safety net in terms of performing the IANA Functions. Discussions focused on "Work Stream 2:" Diversity at ICANN, Staff accountability, SO/AC accountability, transparency in ICANN’s Document Information Disclosure Process, interactions with governments, the whistleblower policy, and ICANN Board deliberation.[1]
Geographic Names[edit | edit source]
- The GAC Working Group on Geographic Names focused on defining Global Public Interest in support of the Argentina Proposal to limit the use of
geographic or culturally significant terms as nTLDs to prevent a TLD monopoly on the terms. It also worked on developing "best practices" in relation to the use of geographic names.[2]
- The Cross-Community Working Group on Use of Country and Territory Names as TLDs (CWG-UCTN) summarized its efforts to date to determine whether its recommendations be subsumed into an existing work stream or a new cross-community working group that would be much broader.
Next-Generation RDS[edit | edit source]
The RDS Working Group continued to debate how to arrive at a consensus “statement of purpose” for an RDS.
