Amadeu Abril i Abril is a professor at ESADE Law School, Ramon Llull University in Barcelona. He teaches European Union Law, Competition Law, and IT Law. He also serves as a secretary to the Competition Law & Policy Section of the Barcelona Bar where he was admitted in 1985.[1]

He has played a significant role in the DNS reform process which resulted in the existence of ICANN[2] and he is considered as one of the pioneers of Internet.[3]

Career History

  • He worked at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition Policy from 1986 to 1988. [1]
  • DNSO selected him for the ICANN Board, his term started in 1999 and ended on 26 June 2003. [2] He is the only Catalan and one of only two Spaniards to have been a member of ICANN's Board of Directors. [4]
  • He led the campaign for .cat, the TLD exclusive to Catalan language. It was approved in 2005.[3]
