Claire C. Craig is an Internet EXchange Point (IXP) Expert and Researcher with over twenty years' ICT Management experience at the University of the West Indies. She is also a contributor to the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG), a non-profit organization. She has experience in researching, implementing, and assessing the operations of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across the Caribbean region.

Craig has PhD in Social Policy focusing on “Stakeholders and Caribbean Internet Exchange Points: A Case Study of Curaçao and Grenada”.

Career[edit | edit source]

During Craig's career, she has been dedicated to advancing Internet networking, security and best practices for Caribbean development, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders including network operators, government officials, business leaders and engineers to promote the benefits of IXPs and foster collaboration. Her contribution has spanned from IXP planning and implementation, conducting research, delivering presentations and partnering with key organizations including: ARIN, LACNIC, LAC-IX, The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), ICANN, the Internet Society, the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC), and Packet Clearing House (PCH).

Previously held the position of Secretary of LACRALO 2021 - 2023; ICANN 58, ICANN 59, ICANN 62 ICANN Fellow and ICANN 64 Mentor

As of 2025, Craig holds the position of Co-Vice Chair of ALAC, starting her mandate at ICANN's AGM of 2023, which will last until ICANN's AGM of 2023. She is also currently Co-Chair of the Operations Finance and Budget Working Group (OFBWG), being elected in 2024.

She is also the CaribNOG Research Director, where she coordinates and organizes bi-annual meetings and webinars, presents papers, collaborates with other ICT stakeholders to building awareness for Caribbean ICT development within the technical community. It was through her work at CaribNOG that she was introduced to the ICANN environment.

Some points in her career include:

  • influencing the region's Internet agenda through contributions to local, regional and global forums to advocate for the value of IXPs in fostering secure, resilient Internet infrastructure;
  • successfully raised financing to fund the establishment of the Caribbean IXP Directory and Traffic Monitoring System;
  • Project Manager for setting up of 3 IXPs in the Caribbean;
  • provides mentorship to novice researchers through a Regional Internet Registry, offering guidance and support in their professional development.
