- GoDaddy has won the contract to operate the .tv ccTLD (Domain Name Wire December 14).
- The Digital Cooperation and Development Forum is taking place December 13-23, featuring Arab IGF sessions, ICANN presentations, and other topics.
- The dates of the last fully virtual ICANN meeting, ICANN 73, have changed. The event will now run from March 7 to 10, 2022. ICANN 74 in the Hague is currently planned as a hybrid-format meeting. ICANN 72 featured community discussions on how to implement an improved hybrid meeting model.
- On December 15, 2021, ICANN's NomCom opened its application period for several top positions. The committee seeks to fill the following roles:
- Three ICANN Board of Directors seats
- One PTI Board of Director seat
- Two regional representatives to ALAC, one for Europe and one for North America
- One GNSO Council seat (non-voting)
- One ccNSO Council seat
