The Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel (RSTEP) is a technical team under the Generic Name Supporting Organization. Its primary responsibility is to assist in the evaluation of requests for new registry services. The RSTEP was created based on Section 1.4 of the Registry Services Evaluation Policy, which was developed by the GNSO in lieu of the requests by gTLD Registry Operators for the review and approval of new registry services. The policy was adopted on July 25, 2006 by the ICANN Board and became effective August 15, 2006. The panel is composed of 20 individuals who are experts in the design, implementation, multiple systems management, Domain Name System (DNS) protocols , and the entire Internet infrastructure. The RSTEP chairman selects the membership of the panel.[1]
