ICANN's job is to ensure the stability, security, and resiliency of the Domain Name System (DNS). The stability and security of the DNS is undermined in a DNS Abuse variety of ways, which ICW Editor Jessica has been working to catalog. In addition, she has been focusing on responses to abuse from ICANN, other institutions, and government agencies.
The stability of the DNS is the central focus of SSAC, and is also enshrined in the ICANN Bylaws in multiple places. ICANN's performance of this critical task is also periodically reviewed as mandated by Article 4.6 of the bylaws. The First Security, Stability, and Resiliency Review took place in 2010, while the Second Security, Stability, and Resiliency Review is ongoing.
If you work within this sphere, you might want to connect with fellow members of the ICANN community focused on cybersecurity.
In late spring 2021...

- The IGF USA conference was held in mid-July, addressing a wide range of issues around Internet governance, interoperability, and accessibility for all. ICANNWiki board member Dustin Loup, Executive Director of ISOC DC and co-chair of IGF USA, co-hosted the welcome session.
- The digital economy SaaS Platform NetObjex began its official collaboration with Zortag to fight NFT counterfeiting.[1]
- The IP management technology provider Anaqua announced its acquisition of SeeUnity, which provides API-related software.[2]
- Spy novelist and foreign affairs columnist David Ignatius worries about Russia trying to oversee Internet governance as the nation doubles down on its lobbying for candidate Rashid Ismailov to head the U.N.’s International Telecommunications Union.[3] Meanwhile, the far-right multilanguage newspaper The Epoch Times warns that the Chinese Communist Party has developed a “plan to control the Internet.”[4]
